Humboldt Forum Proposal "Wort-Welt"
Direkt beim Eintritt in das Humboldt Forum wird der Besucher mit der elementaren Form des Kreises, in diesem Fall mit zwei überdimensionalen Ringen, konfrontiert. Diese Ringe mit Durchmesser von 5m hängen von den Decken der beiden Portale 1 und 5 vor den Balustraden, die die Eintretenden bei jedem Besuch überqueren müssen.
Diese Ringe sind bei näherer Betrachtung eine Darstellung der Geschichte der Humboldt-Brüder in ihrer Vielfalt und Komplexität. Diese komplexen Inhalte werden durch 1124 in den Ringen angeordnete, separate "beleuchtete Bildwürfel" dargestellt. Die physische Beschaffenheit der Bildwürfel, die aus mit Malerei gestaltetem Kunststoff-Film bestehen, lässt den Besucher die Kreise unserer Welten rezipieren. Die Form des Kreis vereint unterschiedliche Zyklen: z.B. den des Klimas und der Biosysteme, aber der Kreis ist auch Symbol in der Sprache und der Kultur, er ist ein Werkzeug der Bildung, der Mathematik und der Wissenschaften. Die in 1124 Würfel aufgeteilte Präsentation stellt die vielfältige Kontinuität der Ideen der Humboldt Brüder dar und transportiert sie in unsere Zeit. Die Anmutung dieser Ringe kann an diesem Ort als ein Zitat des monumentalen Ährenkranzes, der am selben Ort den Palast der Republik zierte, verstanden werden. Die Leere der Ringe ohne „Hammer und Zirkel“ Emblem, unterstreicht den Neuanfang in einem Wissenschaftsforum ohne ideologisch geprägte Nutzung.
Die beiden Seiten der Ringe - Was ist und was war
Die beiden Ringe haben zusammen vier Seiten, die alle unterschiedlich gestaltet sind. Diese leuchtenden Kreise sind ein räumlich übergreifendes Element, das gleichzeitig eine Verbindung und Spannung zwischen der zeitgenössischen und farblich neutralen Architektur des Treppenhauses und der archaischen Form des Kreises und der Farbigkeit unserer Welt bildet.
Was ist - Neugierde- Die Vorderseite der Ringe kann der Besucher auch wahrnehmen, wenn er aus der Distanz in das Treppenhaus blickt. Das Gemälde, das in 281 "beleuchtete Bildwürfel" segmentiert ist, zeigt sich nur so in Gänze.
Was war - Klarheit - Die Rückseite der Ringe sieht der Besucher wenn er die Treppe hochgestiegen ist. Hier kann er aus der Nähe einen genauen Blick auf die 281 einzelnen Bilder, die an der nahesten Stelle nur 1,5 m von der Balustrade entfernt sind, werfen. Die Rückseite beleuchtet die facettenreichen Aspekte des Lebens der Humboldt-Brüder und die Geschichte des Ortes an dem das Humboldt Forum entsteht. Diese 281 Bilder bestehen aus Papierreproduktionen von historischen Bildern, Zeichnungen und Drucken, die hinter die Oberfläche des Kunststofffilms in die Würfel gelegt sind. Hier entsteht ein "hinter Glas" -Effekt. So erlebt der Besucher nicht nur Wissenschaftsaspekte, sondern ist auch inmitten einer optischen Erinnerungskultur.
Treppenhaus 1 - "Wort" - Wilhelm von Humboldt, Universalgelehrter und Linguist
Der Aufstieg durch das Treppenhaus 1 führt den Besucher an das Kunstwerk "Wort", das uns an Wilhelm von Humboldts wissenschaftliche Innovationen annähern lässt und uns verstehen lässt, wie Humboldt Einblicke in ähnliche und doch vielfältige Naturphänomene sowie Völker und deren Sprachen gewinnen konnte und ein darauf basierendes Regelwerk schaffen konnte. Der Umgang mit Sprachen wird hier mit der Kommunikation der Biene verglichen und der "Bienentanz" wird als Linie dargestellt, da die Sprache der Biene durch Wege und Bewegung kommuniziert wird. Diese Linie des Tanzes ist in eine gemalte Farbfläche graviert, die Perspektiven, Vielfalt und Werte der Weltkulturen symbolisiert.
Treppenhaus 5 - "Welt" - Alexander von Humboldt, Reisender und Forscher
Aus der Ferne wird der Besucher diesen Ring als eine helle, energetische Intervention erleben. Sie zeigt eine Interpretation der Isothermenkarte, die 1823 nach Humboldts Forschungsergebnissen erstellt werden konnte. Diese Klimakarte hat in der heutigen Zeit eine neue Bedeutung gewonnen und verbindet uns eng mit Humboldt. Die reflektierende und lichtdurchlässige Kunststofffolie wurde innenseitig, seitenverkehrt bemalt. Die künstlerische Technik der Malerei ist ebenfalls historisch und wird hier trotzdem im zeitgenössischen Kontext wahrgenommen.
Bau
Die beiden Arbeiten "Welt" und "Wort" hängen von der Decke, können jedoch leicht bewegt werden, um Reinigung und Wartungen am Treppenhaus zu erleichtern. Jeder Bildwürfel enthält energiesparende LED-Strahler, die auch bei Tageslicht oder indirekter Beleuchtung einen Lichteffekt schaffen. Die Konstruktion ist leicht, aber stabil und modular aus bekannten und bewährten Materialien gebaut. Jeder Ring wiegt ca. 230 kg.
Humboldt Forum Proposal "Word World"
Upon entering the Humboldt Forum, the visitor is confronted with the elemental shape of the circle, in this case with two oversized rings. These rings, 5m in diameter, hang from the ceilings of both portals 1 and 5 in front of the balustrades, which must cross the entrances on each visit.
On closer inspection, these rings are a depiction of the history of the Humboldt brothers in their diversity and complexity. These complex contents are represented by 1124 separate "illuminated picture cubes" arranged in the rings. The physical nature of the image cube, which consists of plastic film designed with painting, allows the visitor to perceive the circles of our worlds. The shape of the circle combines different cycles: e.g. that of climate and biosystems, but the circle is also a symbol in language and culture, it is a tool of education, mathematics and sciences. The presentation, divided into 1124 cubes, represents the manifold continuity of the ideas of the Humboldt brothers and transports them into our time. The appearance of these rings can be understood in this place as a quotation from the monumental wreath of corn which graced the Palace of the Republic in the same place. The emptiness of the rings without a "hammer and compass" emblem underscores the new beginning in a science forum without ideological use.
The two sides of the rings - what is and what was
The two rings together have four sides, all of which are designed differently. These luminous circles are a cross-spatial element that at the same time forms a connection and tension between the contemporary and color neutral architecture of the staircase and the archaic form of the circle and the color of our world.
What is - Curiosity- The front of the rings can also be perceived by the visitor when he looks into the stairwell from a distance. The painting, which is segmented into 281 "illuminated picture cubes", only shows itself in this way.
What was - Clarity - The visitor sees the back of the rings when he climbs the stairs. Here he can take a close look at the 281 individual pictures, which are located at the nearest point only 1.5 m from the balustrade. The back covers the multifaceted aspects of the life of the Humboldt brothers and the history of the place where the Humboldt Forum is created. These 281 images consist of paper reproductions of historical images, drawings and prints that are placed behind the surface of the plastic film in the cubes. This creates a "behind glass" effect. Thus, the visitor not only experiences aspects of science, but is also in the midst of a visual culture of remembrance.
Staircase 1 - "Word" - Wilhelm von Humboldt, polymath and linguist
The ascent through Staircase 1 leads the visitor to the work of art "Word", which brings us closer to Wilhelm von Humboldt's scientific innovations and lets us understand how Humboldt was able to gain insights into similar yet diverse natural phenomena as well as peoples and their languages could create a base of rules. Dealing with languages s compared here with the bee's communication, and the "bee dance" is represented as a line, as the language of the bee is communicated through paths and movement. This line of dance is engraved into a painted area of olor that symbolizes the perspectives, diversity and values f world cultures
Staircase 5 - "World" - Alexander von Humboldt, traveler and researcher
From afar, the visitor will experience this ring as a bright, energetic intervention. It shows an interpretation of the isotherm map, which was created in 1823 according to Humboldt's research results. This climate map has gained new meaning in modern times and connects us closely with Humboldt. The reflective and translucent plastic film was painted on the inside, reversed. The artistic technique of painting is also historical and yet it is perceived here in a contemporary context.
construction
The two works "World" and "Word" hang from the ceiling, but can easily be moved to facilitate cleaning and maintenance on the staircase. Each image cube contains energy-saving LED spotlights, which create a lighting effect even in daylight or indirect lighting. The construction is lightweight but stable and modularly constructed from well-known and proven materials. Each ring weighs about 230 kg.
